Your services reach it over the private network; you reach it through a short-lived tunnel that is logged in the audit trail.
A release that needs a schema change is not live until the migration has succeeded against a fresh snapshot. If it fails, the previous release keeps serving, the snapshot is discarded and you get the exact error in the release log.
